After 2000 years, there are still some beautiful and well preserved monuments whicillustrate the genius of Roman engineering.
You will be amazed by the Roman heritage we have in the region and will have the choice between differents sites such as : the amphitheater of Arles (coliseum), the amphitheater and the "Square House" (temple) of Nîmes, the theather of Orange ( one of the best preserved in the World) the Triumphal Arch of Orange, and the Pont du Gard, classified among the UNESCO World of Heritage.
Located in differents places, I suggest you three itineraries:
Tour 1:
St Remy de Provence is located in the heart of "The Alpilles" and you will discover two monuments called "The Antic of Glanum" which represent a triumphal arch and a mausoleum. Those are the oldest monuments built in the region ( 1st century BC ). After that, I will suggest you a walking tour in Arles, which was a Roman city located in a strategic place nearby the Rhône river. You will discover differents monuments symbols of the rich past of the roman civilization such as the amphitheater (coliseum), the theater, the roman baths of Constantin, and the place of Forum. Then, we will go to the famous Pont du Gard which is a huge bridge built to bring the water to the city of Nîmes. This monument is one of the highest construction in the region, built 2000 years ago.
Tour 2:
Nîmes, Nemausus at the Roman time was a powerful colony. Today the city has a well preserved amphitheater (coliseum) and a beautiful temple that we call the square house ( built in tribute to Augustus' grand-sons). Then, we will go to Uzès, which was the starting point for the Romans when they built the big aqueduc. They found the spring to supply the city of Nîmes. Now Uzès is a charming city characterised by its medieval streets, its private mansions with Renaissance style and its famous ducal castle. After that, you willl discover The Pont du Gard which a huge bridge built to bring the water to Nîmes at the Roman Time. The monument is the symbol of the genius of this civilization and is classified by UNESCO.
Tour 3:
Nîmes, Nemausus at the Roman time was a powerful colony. Then we will go to The Pont du Gard which a huge bridge built to bring the water to Nîmes at the Roman time. The monument is the symbol of the genius of this civilization and is classified by UNESCO. Then we will continue our trip to Orange, where you will discover two Romans monuments. The first is the antic theater which is one of the best preserved in the World and has an incredible acoustic. The second one is the triumphal arch located at the entry of the city to welcome visitors and important political persons at the Roman time.
